                CRYSTAL MOUNTAIN SKIING INFORMATION — Tuesday March 19, 2024

    To GGRSC members and friends: Join the 6 skiers already registered or signed up for a day of skiing at Crystal Mountain on Tuesday March 19 , 2024.  Members and guests are welcome.   This trip is for both downhill skiers and boarders.

    Weather prediction:  28 degrees- to 42 degrees.  Partly cloudy and moderate winds.

    CURRENT CONDITIONS.  TRAILS OPEN.  39/59    LIFTS OPEN. 7/8.  BASE DEPTH.   18"- 32

    SNOW FLURRIES ARE IN THE AIR TODAY AND SNOWMAKING TEMPERATURES RETURN TONIGHT!  Natural snow and snowmaking temperatures are in the forecast for this week

    Daily Lift Hours until the end of the season: 9am-4:30pm.

    We are meeting at Post Road ( Drive) NE Carpool lot and 131 expressway at 7:30 AM for our journey north. Your other option is to just meet the group at the ski resort instead of carpooling.  When you register please indicate this on your reservation.  See question on the bottom of the registration form.  NOTE TIME CHANGE TO LEAVE !

    Ski Discounts Possible Options: 

    1.  Some of you have Crystal Mountain Passes or White Gold Cards

    2.  if you have a Caberfae Full Week Season Pass to present :  You should have some Crystal Passes with that. 

                 Normal prices:  18-64 year olds — $ 69.00.   Seniors 65-79 — $ 59.00

    3.  Crystal is offering members of this park and ride a great deal for registered  GGRSC members and friends:

          Here is the deal we negotiated:

    Those of ages 18-64. :  Your price is $ 39.00 for your day of skiing  

    Those of ages 7-17 and 65- 79 is $ 34.00 for your day of skiing.

    Under 6 or 80  +.  You are free ! 

    They are charging our group the Monday- Thursday group rate.

    However they want us to have 15 skiers buying tickets.

    ****4.  If we do not have 15 paying ticket holders because we have some people with passes, we do have 2 for 1 passes available from the Warren Miller Movie.  See Shirley if you do not have one. She has more than enough for us.  This is actually the best deal — you just need to have a partner to share with.

    Registered WMSKICLUB members and friends:  That means you have signed up on our website www.wmskiclub.org Just showing up does not get you the discount.  It is easy to do — call Shirley if you need help registering. This is an awesome deal for our club members and friends.

    All you have to do when you get to the mountain is go to the outside ticket windows and tell them you are with the WM SKI CLUB and they will give you your ticket after you pay the option you choose.. Megan or Kyle the  group sales persons are making the ticket staff aware that we are coming.  Crystal is wonderful to work with and has offered us one whale of a discount !   I will be calling up the number of tickets that we will need before I leave. 

    SO PLEASE MAKE YOUR RESERVATION as soon as possible. We prefer that you sign up on the website.  Your ticket will be on a RFID card that you can reload every time you come to Crystal Mountain.  You keep it in your pocket. 

    SKIING HOURS:  9:00 AM to 4:30 PM

    Trip Itinerary:

    1. Meet at 7:30 at Post Road for carpool rides.
    2. Ski times are 9:00- 4:30 
    3. Meet for lunch at 12:30 in the lodge cafeteria or tent.
    4. More skiing fun in the afternoon. Ski with old and new friends.
    5. Après’ skiing at 4:30 at Genos Sports Bar and Grille in Thompsonville.
    6. Possible dinner plans at Genos for those who want to stay.
    7. Drive home and share gas prices with your carpool friends.

    All costs are on your own.

    Hike about 4 miles on the black & orange trails until sunset using part of the blue trail to access. This is a shared trail with mountain bikers so be ready to jump to the side so they can pass without slowing down. Be sure to park in the Prairie Overlook Parking Lot on Kies St. NE to meet, NOT THE MAIN ONE OFF 10 MILE RD. Restrooms not open until May. Afterwards, those who prefer may go to a mutually agreed upon place to eat/drink.

    This is a 'Book your own lodging" trip. Follow these steps:

    1. Call the Apple Tree Inn at 231-348-2900 to make reservation ($109 + tax/room Friday night & $119+ tax per room Saturday night; 2 queen beds) GGRSC room block - only one credit card for reservation. Hotel can split the bill for roommates at check-out

    2. Register on GGRSC website

    3. Email your trip leader including roommate preference

    4. Hotel policy for cancellations: 48 hours prior to check-in to avoid penalties

    This will be a linear 5.85 mile hike through woods, mostly on a dirt pathway, but some on a dirt road, with rolling hills and two views of the Flat River (one low, one high). We will begin hiking at the parking lot in Fallasburg Park off of McPherson St. by the Frisbee golf course at 2:00 PM and end up at the Boy Scout Cabin where we will spot our cars earlier at 1:45 PM. If you cannot meet us at the Boy Scout Cabin in time, then come directly to the McPherson St. parking lot as we will not wait to begin. Those that want to socialize afterwards we will meet at Big Boiler Brewery in Lowell.

    Join us for a weekend of fun camping and paddling July 19-21, 2024. Just 45 minutes north of Grand Rapids!  FULL DETAILS ON FLYER BELOW

    Camp reservations:  Reserve online through Sandy Beach newaygocountymi.gov (pick Sandy Beach option - they are changing online service this year and it may not be live yet) or call 231-689-7340 off season or 231-689-1229 starting May 1.  The Oakes Cabin is where coffee/bonfires and Saturday night potluck will be.

    Please register here for food and equipment rental (if needed).  Also gives me a head count.  

    If you prefer to just go canoeing/kayaking on Saturday, that is fine also. Optional dinner out Friday night 7:00 pm at Northern Trails Bar & Grill (to be confirmed).

    Registration $5/members or $7/non-members covers paper products, meat for Saturday night potluck, and morning coffee (breakfast food on your own).  Kayaks are $30 and canoes $40.  If canoeing with two people, one will register for food and canoe and the second person for food only.
